Located along the banks of the historic D&R Canal and its crossing with the Trenton Battle Monument Park, the 212-acre Canal Banks Master Plan proposed the vision and the planning instruments that have successfully transformed a distressed area into newly revived and vital neighborhood.
This residential community development initiative garnered several planning awards for creating home ownership opportunities and green spaces that enhance nearby historical features.
The design is comprised of six strategic housing developments that combine rehabilitation with new construction for low, moderate and market rate workforce housing. Built projects, executed under the Master Plan are highlighted in red, including four new workforce housing developments, programming for a job-training center and planned school renovations.
Located at the abandoned terminus of three railroad lines, the plan incorporates these neighborhood improvements with the revitalized historical canal and monument resources into an enhanced open space network.
